Abstract, Event Details: 

We will discuss two recent experiments involving non-equilibrium quantum dynamics of strongly interacting many-body system with long-range interactions. Specifically, we will describe  realization of controlled collisions between individual photons that are mediated by exchange interactions involving Rydberg atomic states. This system can be used to explore quantum many-body dynamics of strongly interacting photons.   In addition, we will describe an observation of slow thermalization in a critical system involving disordered, strongly interacting dipolar spin ensembles in black diamond. By controlling both disorder and interactions between spins, we observe critical, power-law thermalization dynamics as well as the effects due interaction, dissipation and time-dependent disorder.
