In recent years, the spin-orbit interaction in magnetic/nonmagnetic bilayer has attracted great attention, which opens a new path to electrically control magnetism. It is found that an in-plane current through the bilayer can generate a spin-orbit torque that manipulates the magnetization of the magnetic layer. Although the phenomena have been observed in many experiments, the detailed mechanism of the spin-orbit interaction is still under debate, which is likely due to the subtleties in different experimental design. In this talk I will present our recent efforts on the accurate measurement of the spin-orbit torques, which quantitatively reveals the interfacial contributions as well as incompletion of spin dephasing in the magnetic layer. A phenomenological drift-diffusion model is proposed to describe the spin transport taking into consideration of the finite spin dephasing.
